Handcrafted. Indian. Timeless.
Our Heritage

Where Hands Carry Memory

Woodeon began in a small workshop in Channapatna with a single question: how do we put a 300-year-old craft into the hands of someone living in a Mumbai high-rise — without stripping away the soul? Every piece on this site is hand-carved or hand-painted by artisans across six Indian states. The wood is sustainably sourced. The pigments are mineral and plant. The signatures are real. The pricing is fair. We're building the largest direct-to-home folk-art platform in India — and we're doing it slowly, the way the artisans taught us.

What we believe

The non-negotiables

Four things every Woodeon piece carries — without exception.

  • Sustainable, traceable wood

Every Woodeon piece is carved from FSC-certified mango, sheesham or teak. We can name the village the wood came from and the kiln it was seasoned in.

  • Fair upfront pricing

We pay artisans up front — not on consignment, not on net-30. The price you see on a product page funds the next batch directly.

  • Always signed

Every piece carries the artisan’s signature on the underside. Every order ships with an artisan card naming the maker, their village, and the technique.

  • Heritage, not nostalgia

We don't romanticise the past. We work with techniques that have lasted centuries because they're still genuinely better — non-toxic, durable, beautiful.

The Journey

How Woodeon happened

  1. 2022 · Channapatna

Our founders met Anwar Hussain, a third-generation lac-turner in Channapatna, and realised the entire economic structure for selling his work was broken: middlemen took 70%, payments came on net-90, his children were considering leaving the craft.

  2. 2023 · The first 30 SKUs

We bought 30 pieces outright at fair price, shipped them to friends across India, and took the WhatsApp messages that came back as our brief: more colour, more storytelling, deliver to the door, no compromise on quality.

  3. 2024 · Pan-India network

We added Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Madhubani (Bihar), Nathdwara (Rajasthan), Bankura (West Bengal) and Warli (Maharashtra). Every region brought a distinct palette and technique. We kept the upfront-payment rule.

  4. 2025 · Storefront + stores

We launched the woodeon.in storefront and our first two physical stores in Delhi and Bengaluru. The store is the same set of pieces you see online — but with the artisans' videos playing on screen and the colours under real light.

  5. Today

200+ artisan families, six states, a small studio in Bengaluru, two physical stores and a growing franchise programme. The brief hasn't changed.
