Description+
An eight-inch standing elephant; hand-turned on the lathes of Channapatna and finished in a deep; warm golden lacquer. The proportions are softened in the way only a lathe can — the curves bear the soft authority of the spinning wood. Coloured with vegetable dyes and sealed with beeswax; the surface deepens with handling. The elephant has been the household guardian of Indian homes for centuries; this one is large enough to anchor a console; small enough to live easily on a shelf.
