Carved in the woodworking belt around Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, this folk bull mask is at once playful and reverent — the bull is the steady; gentle creature of village life and Nandi-keeper of the gates of Shiva. The piece is shaped from seasoned Indian hardwood; hand-painted in a deep forest green with red and yellow folk accents; and finished for indoor display. Mounted on a foyer wall or above a console it brings a grounded; ceremonial note into the room.
