Turned by hand on the lathes of Channapatna and finished in a warm rose-pink derived from natural pigments, this little elephant sits in a graceful pose with trunk raised. The wood is the indigenous hale mara, prized for the way it takes lacquer with a soft, even glow. Beeswax polish gives it a feel that is smooth without being glossy. A thoughtful piece for a child's room, a study, or a tucked-away corner of the mandir.
