Sitting Elephant — Red & Cream

A sitting elephant, hand-turned on the lathe and dressed in deep vermilion red over a creamy golden base — the duotone built up by layering colour as the wood spins. The form is rounded and full, warm in the hand. The colour and soft sheen come from lac — melted onto the wood on the spinning lathe in Rajasthan's centuries-old lakh tradition, and burnished to a natural glow.

No synthetic lacquer. It's meant to be touched as much as looked at, and only deepens with handling. Every piece is turned and painted by hand, so small variations in colour and grain are natural — the mark of genuine craft.

A grounding little presence on a console, a mantel, or beside a brass diya.
